Who we are..
Tiddlygigs was founded in 2018 by local musician and educator Emily Murphy to bring high-quality live music to young children in Somerset.
It began as a small concert series and has now grown to include regular Monday classes in Taunton, school visits, and performances at local events and in towns across Somerset, all designed for children aged 0–7.
After the success of the first Tiddlygigs Storytime tour in autumn 2023, featuring Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the project has received funding from Arts Council England and Somerset Council to tour four new stories across Somerset—beginning with Jack and the Beanstalk in autumn 2025.
Emily grew up in Somerset and studied bassoon as a scholar at the Royal College of Music in London. She has performed with ensembles including the Royal Opera House Orchestra, New London Sinfonia, and London Firebird Orchestra, and has over 18 years of experience teaching music. A passionate advocate for accessible, engaging music education, Emily specialises in Kodály-inspired teaching, using songs and games to nurture musicality and confidence in children. Emily is currently Head of Music at Chard Prep School and continues to teach throughout Somerset. With three young children herself, she’s often testing out new songs and musical ideas at home before bringing them to her classes!
